Shields and Walls

Tears were never good enough,
To stop the fears that screamed inside.
Words were never strong enough,
To build a place where she could hide.

And no one ever came as close,
As she wanted them to be.
For everyone who took that step,
She pushed away, afraid they’d see.

She never was the strong they thought,
And she cared more than she’d say.
So with every glance they caught,
She forced them there to back away.

And behind her walls she hid,
As her tears they quenched the light
Of every torch that once was lit.
And all the fears that she denied,
They attacked her from behind
The shield.
