A mother's journey

Fairytales and goodnight kisses,
gently tucking in my sheets.
All the problems saved for later,
not yet for my ears to reach.

Climbing, crawling, crying softly,
on my mother's lap it's safe.
All the love, care and attention,
more than others ever gave.

As my dad was screaming murder,
she just told me to go play.
Shielding me from all the danger,
in her own and special way.

Through all the space that I require,
she always gives the strength I seek.
Mountain tops and empty valleys,
she'll always be there at its peak.

We have lost and we have conquered,
side by side we fought it all.
It may be in a mother's journey,
but in the dark, I hear her call.
