Roane is de Ierse benaming voor Selkies, Seal-Faeries.
Wanneer een Selkie haar zeehond-huid afwerpt, kan zijn als een mens over het land lopen. Als een man haar tweede huid vindt en haar om de hand vraagt kan zij niet weigeren. Vaak zal zij echter wel verlangen naar de zee en als zij haar huid vindt, zal ze ook terug keren naar het water. Dan kan ze niet meer veranderen in een mens.
