The story is set 97 years after a devastating nuclear war in 2052 wiped out almost all life on Earth. The only known survivors are the residents of twelve space stations. These stations banded together to form a single massive station called "The Ark", where about 2400 people live under the leadership of the elected Chancellor, Thelonieus Jaha. But there’s a system failure, so all the oxygen is running low. So they sent 100 juvenile prisoners declared expendable to the surface.
Eleanor Kane is one of these prisoners, though she is already over the age of 18. She isn’t locked up because of a crime but because of her dad. She has been locked up since she was 14 and now it’s almost 5 years later. In these years, one of the guards helped her train in secret. So when she then gets send away, she at least knows how to defend herself.
